This is an exciting opportunity to join Bristol libraries in a variety of roles across the city. We’re looking for:
Library Assistants in selected locations
a Library Supervisor in the Stockwood, Whitchurch and Hartcliffe team
a Library Early Years Coordinator
a Library Volunteer Coordinator
As a member of the library service team, you’ll be:
welcoming residents and visitors to our libraries
helping with enquiries
providing business support
signposting to other services
talking about reading
talking to children
supporting people to use our free public computers
It’s rewarding and varied work, and we don’t have quiet or traditional library spaces. Our libraries can be busy with many people visiting at once along with activities such as singing with babies, author events or story times taking place, making our spaces very lively at times. We also offer study space in Central Library. Our roles require diplomacy and compassion as we balance everyone’s needs in library spaces which are at the heart of our communities.
Bristol is a diverse city and with 27 libraries spread across the city, it’s vitally important we have a workforce that reflects this.
You’ll receive an excellent rewards package, including membership of the Local Government Pension scheme, and a generous annual leave allowance. In addition, you’ll be working in a supportive environment where you’ll have the chance to make Bristol a better place and contribute to its future.
At Bristol City Council, we’re passionate about our aim to be an inclusive workplace for all that reflects the communities we serve, and we believe everyone is valuable. We particularly welcome applicants from groups under-represented within the service, including young people 16 – 29, people from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic backgrounds, males and disabled candidates. We’re committed to ensuring all our staff can succeed. Appointments will be made on merit.
