Become a Click Start ambassador with the Institute of Coding

The Institute of Coding (IoC) want to highlight the breadth of opportunities in tech, make it known that a tech career is for everyone and show people how to kickstart their career in tech.

The IoC Ambassador programme is an opportunity to get involved in helping get a more diverse group of people into tech by helping to raise awareness of our courses through the power of social media. It’s a great opportunity to share your experiences and tips with other potential learners and be the face of a national brand.

You’ll be predominantly creating TikTok and Instagram content to be shared on the IoC accounts, which can also be shared on your own accounts, if you want. Therefore, you need to be happy to talk on camera and for this to be shared. You’ll be paid on an hourly basis of £11p/h with the expectation of 3 hours per week for 12 months.

To find out more about this opportunity and apply, please get in touch: clickstart@bathspa.ac.uk

Click Start celebrates six month anniversary

Since the launch in May, Click Start has upskilled over 100 learners with the next level skills needed to take the next step in their career!

Six cohorts of learners have successfully completed their course this year, with a fifth of graduates achieving further outcomes. These include securing freelance work, further education and roles in marketing.

New skills initiative helps learners take their career forward

FWD is a collaboration between Bath Spa University, B&NES Council, Bath College and University of Bath that brings together science, arts, creativity, and technology. These courses are free to take part in.

Learners have the opportunity choose one or two courses from the four pathways: Digital, Entrepreneurship, Health and Sustainability. Each course consists of three weeks of teaching and two weeks of project work from an employer. Teaching starts 15 January.

Improve your employability

Josh and Rose from Catch22 have the following advice to continue to improve your employability.

Interview Tip

When all of the questions have been asked, take a chance at the end to ask if there were any responses of yours that the interviewer would like any further clarification on or if there was anything else they wanted from yourself at this time.

This not only gives you a chance to potentially elaborate on a response to a previous interview question that could have had slightly more detail, but also allows you to round off the interview confidently by asking the employer a question.

Employer Engagement

It can potentially seem daunting for some at first but approaching companies regardless of if they have a job ad out at the moment is a great activity to do on a regular basis.

Not only may you learn about some of the “hidden jobs” in the market, but you’ll also start to build up a contact base that you can utilize over the months and years through engaging with various companies.

Embracing your unique personality and experience

As a career coach it is important for us to understand your individual personality and the way you work best. This is a key step to developing your skills and constructively challenging each other to provide a better support network moving forward.

Having a sense of your individual journey and history provides key insights into transferable skills that you possess and will be able to implement into future roles. This allows me as a coach to support you to move forward, whilst also gauging how you work effectively within a team and with independent tasks.
