Website Brigstowe

Brigstowe supports anyone living with or affected by HIV in Bristol and the surrounding areas. We offer a comprehensive and holistic range of services including advice & support, a peer support group and peer mentoring. You can find more information about the services we provide here.

Do you have experience supporting people with complex needs, including mental health difficulties, drug and alcohol misuse and those in crisis?

Are you able to develop safe, trusting relationships to help those who have experienced barriers to accessing care engage with their healthcare?

Are you committed to providing person-centred, confidential and non-judgmental support to a diverse range of people from different cultures?

Your role

People living with HIV who take medication can expect a normal life span and cannot pass HIV on to sexual partners (click here for more information). However, for many different reasons, some people are not taking HIV medication or attending regular appointments. Non-engagement means people have an increased risk of health complications, and it could also increase the risk of onward transmission of the virus to others.

You will join Brigstowe’s Advice and Support team as an Engagement Support Worker, providing outreach support to people who are struggling with their diagnosis and who may have complex needs or be in crisis. They will need encouragement and support around HIV treatment adherence and clinic engagement.

You will work with people to build a holistic support plan that will enable them to move forward with their lives and live well with HIV. You will also work very closely with clinicians at the HIV Clinic at Southmead Hospital, as well as liaising with other local support providers, agencies, and community groups to ensure the best outcomes for your clients.
