We’re excited to announce that a new course of How to be a Chef will start on 13 September 2023 , running for 12 weeks and finishing on 5 December with a break for October half term. I am sending you this as I think you may know of people who will fit the bill – it is for any young person who wants to get into the food industry. Please send on to anyone who springs to mind, who likes to cook or any other organisations working with young people.
It’s a hands-on course where we will equip the young people with the skills and experience to work in the hospitality sector, while cooking a wide range of dishes using huge variety of ingredients. We have a lot of fun, cook and eat together and they will leave with a food education unlike any other. They will receive a Level 2 BTec and a Food Hygiene Certificate, both of which are valued by employers in the food industry. The current students on our spring/summer course have been to a farm, taken part in a Bristol food tour and helped prep and serve at events alongside the cooking lessons – with plenty of guest slots with outstanding Bristol chefs.
The group is very small, with only 8 places available. This means that students will get plenty of one-to-one attention from our tutors and a personalised experience; it also means that they’ll need to be quick to secure a place!
Please note that they would need to be at Square Food Foundation at The Park, Daventry Rd, BS4 1DQ for two days per week for the entire length of the course. Those days will be Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10am – 4pm, and we need to ensure the places go to people who can commit to this and be on time every day. It is a demanding course so they need to have the energy to commit . They will be paid for any outside events that they put their hand up for. We will also support them to find a job in their area of interest in the food industry.
We will invite all applicants to come in and meet one of the tutors ahead of the course start, where they have a chance to look at the kitchen and get a feel for the course. Charlotte and Abby will be holding interviews on Tuesdays and Wednesdays through June/July .If you know young people who would be interested then please get them to fill in the form online – with the link here .
