Update on the Women’s Work Lab – Bath 2022

Good morning,

I am emailing today with an update on The Women’s Work Lab with some details on our programme, how recruitment is going and some information on our placements.

Our bespoke classroom training and work placements focus on building confidence, ambition and employability skills. We specialise in unlocking potential and laying the foundations for a brighter future. Outcomes for participants include new careers, positive role modelling for their families and communities and the creation of a vital support network. Applications are currently open and we would love to hear from any women who you are connected with that you think would be a good fit. We are keen to reach out to as many community groups as possible to hear from women who may be interested in taking part. Typically we work with mums who have experienced barriers to work such as lone parenting, domestic abuse, poor mental health or children with additional needs.

There is plenty of information on our website and I also attach a leaflet that we would be grateful if you could share in your networks. We do encourage mums to complete their applications as soon as possible and then we will hold informal interviews to those shortlisted before formally offering places.

The main things you need to know:

  • Now able to accept applications from mums who might be working part time or those who aren’t eligible to receive Universal Credit eg; Carers allowance
  • Applications welcome from across Bath providing mums can get to The Hub, Mulberry Park for the training (expenses paid)
  • If you have younger children the job centre should be able to help with additional childcare via the Flexible Support Fund. Speak to your job coach.
  • Travel expenses provided for the training and work placements
  • Mums can apply via our website www.womensworklab.co.uk

Everything seems to be going really well in terms of us returning to Bath for 2022, we have been working hard to establish new relationships, reaching out to the community and have a trip planned to come to Bath the first week of April.

In terms of our mums and how recruitment is going, we have had some incredible applications so far and the opportunity has been very well received. We have now had 17 applications for our programme and completed interviews of those shortlisted to date. A high percentage of the applications have come in through social media and local schools. We need more mums to sign up, apply and for your teams to spread the word and be proactive in terms of getting the information out into the community. But – we still have places to fill on the programme!!

Mums can apply here: https://www.womensworklab.co.uk/im-a-mum

We as a social enterprise would truly appreciate any support, guidance, connections and local knowledge to continue to flourish and be an active part of the community.

We have recently been featured in some publicity with BBC, you can find the article here:

We are looking to speak to organisations who may be interested in hosting Mums on work placements for four weeks in June 2022 (the first part of the programme is classroom based training). The placements are four weeks and for 15 hours during school hours usually Tues/Weds/Thurs 9.30-2.30) in an entry level type role. Often employers do rotating placements so Mums can find out different things about an organisation. There is no limit to the type of placement we are interested in as we make bespoke matches depending on the Mums interests. Examples in the past have included admin roles, retail, hospitality, support and charity work plus more practical roles.

So far we have confirmed nine employer partners but we need your support in building these placement opportunities, increasing the range of roles available.

It would be great to have a call with you to see if there may be an opportunity for potential placements and to speak more generally about the work we are doing.

Again, if you have any connections, clients or people in which you are supporting that would benefit from the programme I would welcome and be happy to talk through any questions or queries from across your network.
