Avon Fire & Rescue Service – Wholetime Firefighter Recruitment Mentoring Programme

We would like to offer 40 individuals the opportunity to be mentored by one of our Firefighters from February up until when applications open later in the year.

The aim of this mentoring programme is to provide support and guidance to potential recruits, who would have otherwise not have a link with the fire service. Through mentoring we will use a wide range of knowledge and understanding about our service to support you to develop the skills and attributes, gain confidence and insight you need for the role.

Due to the current restrictions we may not able to invite you onto station but your mentor will be available to offer advice over the phone and via email. If restrictions or risks to our staff decreases over the mentoring period then we would of course revise this.

There are only 40 places, we will match you with a Firefighter who is committed to ensuring that the Service becomes more diverse. All mentors will be supported by a team of individuals from the departments below should they need more advice on any questions you have:

  • Human Resources
  • Learning and Development
  • Diversity, Inclusion, Cohesion and Equality
  • Fitness Advisor

Places will be offered via an application where we will ask you to outline what you think is involved in the role of a Firefighter. To sign up for the mentoring programme you need to be seriously considering applying in the coming months, you need to be over 18 and live in our Service area. Please complete the registration form to apply. Registration will be open from Monday 10 to Friday 14 January and then we hope to confirm whether your application is successful by the end of the month. If you have been unsuccessful then I am afraid we would not be able to offer you any feedback.

Good luck, our mentors look forward to meeting with you.
